Biography:
Dane Reynolds is weird. Like, get a tattoo of a seagull on his forearm weird. Get a Dutch boy haircut weird. Listen to Ween weird. Wear a fanny pack weird. It’s the little nuances that make Dane, well, Dane, and that make him perfect for the DC surf team.
That’s even before we talk about his surfing. Hyped for the last few years as the best freesurfer on the planet, Dane’s also been known to show his face at contests. Classically, it’s always been a tough transition for freesurfers to make the move to the competition arena… the pressures, the travel stresses, the heat constraints, and the contest scene in general is certainly a stark contrast to the casual nomad lifestyle of quote-unquote freesurfer.
A non-issue for Dane. He breezed through the ’07 World Qualifying Series (WQS) to gain entry on the ‘08 World Championship Tour (WCT). It was so easy that Dane actual felt guilty (guys sweat on the ‘QS for years before earning their way to the ‘CT, a feat Dane accomplished in one year). But that raises the big question. Is he even into the whole competitive surfing thing?
At DC, we don’t really care. We like to let Dane be Dane. That’s way more than enough.
