The Dude Cruise good times kept rolling at Tuesday night's Surfer Poll Awards. With the industry's finest in attendance at The Grove in Anaheim, Bruce Irons took 7th in the poll while his teammate and Dude Cruise costar Dane Reynolds took 3rd and earned this year's award for Best Maneuver. Finally, Dude Cruise director Matt Beauchesne took honors as Breakthrough Filmmaker.
For over thirty years the Surfer Poll has represented and awarded the best surfers, movies, surf filmmakers and photographers on the planet. Placing among the ton ten in the Poll and/or winning one of the other awards given out is a pretty high honor considering the voting fans elect the winners. It's like winning a Golden Glove or an Oscar, but instead winners get a little surfboard award or plaque and the undisputed respect of the entire surf community.
While Dane's trick that won Best Maneuver was sick (look for that frontside ally-oop 360 in Dude Cruise) and Bruce had another great year and Matt created his first great surf movie, the acceptance speeches the DC boys gave were even better. Dane was funny, humble, real, and super-unique in his two appearances on stage. Bruce, who's been downright wild in years past, was thankful and grateful to everyone who's made his career so far, well, so great. And Matt, who skipped college 8 years ago to follow his passion and make surf movies, credited the award as "his degree."
Watch all this go down when FUEL TV airs The Surfer Poll 2008 in an upcoming broadcast... we'll let you know when it hits.
